The new radio-operated water meters from QUNDIS – suitable for all installation situations

In October of this year QUNDIS will be launching the Q water 5.5, the new generation of electronic cold and hot water meters. These hybrid meters have an integrated radio module which transmits parallel walk-by and AMR telegrams. The optimised water meters have been developed in cooperation with Elster Messtechnik, enabling them to cover almost all installation conditions in the metering capsule field.

Added value provided by the latest technology and functions

Q water 5.5 water meters are MID-compliant, and the wide selection of metering-capsule variants make them suitable for most standard single-pipe connectors under virtually all installation conditions. A further new feature is the integrated leak detection function. This feature immediately identifies leaks and, with AMR use, reports them via the QUNDIS Smart Metering Platform. Fitting the meters is also uncomplicated. No parameterisation is necessary and the automatic radio activation and plastic capsule seal enable quick installation.

The Q water 5.5 water meters are fitted with an integrated 868 MHz radio module and can be operated in the S-mode and the C-mode. The additional C-mode communication almost doubles its transmission range. In future the parallel transmission of data will enable metering services to switch to automatic meter reading (AMR) without any reconfiguration work.

Pioneering cooperation between two metering technology specialists

As hybrid devices the optimised water meters combine the advantages of mechanical hydraulics and electronic data recording. Specialists in both fields – Elster Messtechnik and QUNDIS – have worked together on creating this solution. “The use of our hydraulics in combination with the pioneering radio system of QUNDIS heralds a new era in the metering of water consumption”, states Ingo Hundhausen, CEO of Elster Messtechnik GmbH. Dieter Berndt, CEO of QUNDIS GmbH, is also enthusiastic about the new innovation: “Thanks to this cooperation we will from October be able to offer a groundbreaking product which does not yet exist on the market in this form. It is particularly the extensive hydraulic range of Elster Messtechnik for almost all installation conditions which makes the new water meters unique.”

Daily readout operations create flexibility for metering services

With this new generation of devices there is no difference between the consumption values which are displayed and those which are transmitted. The water meters enable mobile data recording with Q walk-by at any time – 365 days a year. This means that metering services are no longer tied to fixed time schedules in reading out the consumption of cold water and hot water. This provides them with more flexibility when it comes to recording consumption data and the billing of utility costs. The water meters can be operated in any QUNDIS installation without any modifications to the hardware and software of the network components!

In addition to screw-type water meters, a wide selection of metering capsule versions will also be available for most standard types of single-pipe connection. Thanks to the cooperation with Elster Messtechnik, the full range will include 12 metering-capsule and three surface-mounted versions. As a result, with the new Q water 5.5 generation of devices customers are ideally prepared for the future of consumption metering.
